In the book, "Outcast United" so far coach Luma has been known to be really silent and hard on her players. She also seems to really care about the sport. She teaches her kids to never give up and always try their hardest. I think the values she teachers her soccer players will definitely help in there future. The reason for that is because; when coach Luma was younger she was inspired by her coach to always work hard and never give up.

(I have my other paragraphs in the next post.)

    Question 1:
The Fugees' soccer coach, Luma, has taught the team many lessons other than how to play soccer. Luma makes it a rule that you must always be on time, or do not bother coming at all. She also made sure that the players did not group together based on the countries they were from. She tried to unite all the players together as a team. Luma encouraged all her players to work hard and to not give up when they do not get something.

I believe the values Luma is teaching her players will definitely help them in their futures. Luma is teaching her players how to not be discouraged by their lives by never letting them give up on and off the field. She makes all her players be on time which will help them when they have jobs. Also, she makes the players work together which helps them become more outgoing and allows them to meet new people. She makes her players work hard and strive for the best which is a good quality to develop in everyone. Luma is a great and dedicated coach for the Fugees. The values she presents to the team will teach them how to succeed.

    Question 2:
The impact between Officer Timothy Jordan and Chike Chime will greatly impact the town of Clarkson. What happened between Officer Jordan and Chime was wrong. It was not fair for Officer Jordan to act that way towards Chime. The easily tempered Officer Jordan was tired of all the refugees in Clarkson and was racist against the Africans. Officer Jordan wrongly arrested Chime. I believe the people of Clarkson will be outraged by the was Chime was treated by Officer Jordan. For someone to be treated that way for no reason would have definitely upset me and the refugees in Clarkson may become upset too. Clarkson's residents may demand changes in their town to take place after this wrong incident.

As time went by, Luma's refugee soccer team grew. And the players slowly began to trust Luma and open up to her. As Luma was learning about their backgrounds, she noticed that the kids would pair up by race when playing. This wasn't alright with her, so she decided to teach them values. Values to be on time to soccer or study sessions. And teached them to put their pasts behind and work together.

The values Luma teaches her kids will not only help them on the feild, but also in their futures. By learning to work together, the kids won't be racist towards others when they are older. Meaning they would make more friends and cause less trouble. Also, learning to be on time will make them know it isn't ok to show up late for a commitment. In the future this could help them keep a job; or thought of as more proper people by others. The values Luma teaches the fugees will make them better off for their futures.

The incident between Chike Chime and Officer Timothy Jordan will impact the Fugees and Clarkston. First off, it was completley racist. Timothy thought Chike had stolen the nice car he was driving because we was African. Not knowing that Chike was well off and bought the car himself, he assumed because he was a certain race he stole it. This event would make the Fugees turn agaisnt the police, thinking they are racists. And Overall could start a battle or hatred between people in Clarkston. Also being the fact that Clarkston is home to many refugees; or people from many different races from the Middle East. What happened between the officer and Chike Chime was wrong and unfair.

Coach Luma was a strict coach. Being on time was a main factor, she said that if you didn't show up on time there was absolutely no point in showing up at all. She encouraged them to work hard, and always to do their best. Also, Coach Luma made sure they didn't seperate themselves in groups based on the country they were from; she wanted them united as a team.

I believe Coach Luma is sending out a positive message for her players. Teaching them to do their best will help them go far in life, not only on a team. She is simply encouraging them to be the best they can be. Another example is making them be on time, which will help them prepare for their futures in careers where being on time is a must. Working hard will show great production with future careers. Overall Coach Luma is simply pushing them to show them that they can accomplish anything.

The incident between Timothy Jordan and Chike Chime was unreasonable. Just because Chike Chime was African American, Timothy Jordan assumed it was him. Chike bought the car himself, but Timothy didn't believe it, that is simply an example of racism. The impact it will have on the Fugees is that they will assume all the police officers are racist and will cause a revolt in Clarkston. The diverse society does not help because everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Coach Luma taught the fugees lessons on more than just soccer. She taught them n to not give up on their goals, and how to unite as a team despite their differences. Luma say that when they practiced they would split and form groups with people of their own race.

That wouldn't work. For example, one player had the ball and could have past it to his teammate near him but he didn't. The reason was becuase his teammate wasn't the same race so he ignored that teammate and waited for another one who was of the same kind as himself. That would be a problem if they all had to work as a team.

I think the impact will be that the refugees and immagrants will start to dislike that police force becuase of this incident. I can understand why, Jordan assulted chime for no reason, all he did was ask a question. This can sturr up hatred and ditrust between the refugees, immagrants, and the police.

Coach Luma trys to teach her players that they are not that different from each other. She also taught them not to give up on their goals and help them connect as a team, even though some of them were different races and religions.

I think that these lessons will help them connect as a team. I think that if they recognize that they aren't that different they will connect and become friends.I think if they realize that they all come from simliar situations and know that they have someone to come to that they will become close.

I think that the Fugees will have trouble practiceing and will start disliking the police because Chime was assulted for no apparent reason. The Fugees will start hating the police after that.

Coach Luma really cares about her soccer team, the Fugees. She teacher them important lessons that go along with soccer and being a team. Although they come from different places with different pasts and beliefs, they all connect and become a family when they play soccer. It is up to them to take responsibility for what they do on the field. This means showing up for practice on time, putting in all the effort they can and getting along with their fellow teammates.

These values will follow the Fugees for the rest of their lives. The values are commitment, responsibility, equality. and team work. Commitment is important in life because it is vital to not give up on something that is important to you. Responsibility is important because in order to take care of yourself and keep your life on track you need to be responsible for the things you do wrong and fix them. Equality is important because everyone on the Fugees team needs to be treated equally because they are all the same when They are on the field or anywhere for that matter. Teamwork is specifically needed on the soccer field, but it also comes in play when you work with people. You need teamwork skills to get the job done. The Fugees would never win if they didn't use these skills to the best of their ability on the soccer field.

The incident between Chike Chime and Officer Jordan would have scared me if I was a refugee living in Clarkston. If Chike Chime hadn't been a refugee, there is a question to whether Officer Jordan would have attacked him or not. For the natives of Clarkston, all of these refugees coming in caused a commotion and a lot of racial tension because the refugees were looked down upon. Without a doubt, they were at the bottom of the food chain in Clarkston society, which made Chike Chime and easy target to the higher authority of Officer Jordan.

Luma tries to show strict leadership when coaching her team by the things she expects from her players. One quote in particular would be "If you come late to practice don't even bother showing up at all." Having a time management skill or being able to arrive at places promptly would be a skill that develops into a habbit. She was still always encouraging to her players by telling them never to give up in anything on or off the field;another skill necessary in life.

I think that her method of leadership is common and usually an effective one. She is serious when necessary and encouraging most of the time. The high expectencies from her players on and off the field will eventually help the players to succeed in the game and in life. Her influence greatly impacts the lives of the kids she coaches.

The incident that occured between the officer and Chime was complete racially profiling on the officers part. He just assumed he would be a suspect because of his ethnicity. It impacts the team because the refugees are already misunderstood and mistreated as it is. Now they just look even more like a negative image than before.

    (Rest of my work)

Officer Jordan was not only a racist but he assumed way too quickly. The officer believed that just because Chike Chime was African American that he stole the nice car he was driving. Obviously that wasn’t the case. If I was refugee who lived in Clarkson I would be insulted and frightened by the accusation of the police officer. It would not surprise me one bit if the people of Clarkson turned there feelings towards the police in the area to fear and hatred.

The lessons that Luma tried to teach her players were to try hard and never give up. I think that this will deffinatly help them in they're future. Luma got this advise from her coach when she was younger and that helped her when she got older. So she passed this on to her players.

One example from this would be; like she said "If you show up late to practice, dont even bother showing up at all". This would teach them to be propmt and on time with and for everything. Although Luma is tough with them, they know she's doing it out of the kindness of her heart. She is also encourging with everything they do and helps them succeed.

I think what happened between Chike Chime and the officer was unfair. Because from what i could tell Chime didn't give the officer a rough time, he was just asking a question he the officer blew it way out of proprotion. He just thought Chime was giving him a problem because of the color of his skin and where he was from. The refugees probably would look at this toward a negaitive view because they've already gone through enough as it is and they dont need anything else to go through.

Coach Luma tried her very best to instill many values in her players during their practices and study sessions. She stressed dedication and hard work, along with the fact that no matter what, giving up is not an option. Luma also makes sure that there are no favorites on her team and none of the players for cliques that exclude a type of person on the team. She made sure the players knew to come on time or not at all. All of these values are important to be learned by everyone.

THe values that Coach Luma drills into her team will undoubtedly help them throughout there lives. The players, now that they have learned not to play favorites, to be dedicated, and to include everyone, will continue on with those lessons and hopefully go very far in life. These values will give the players solid ground to make it in the future and persevere through the harships they are all going through.

The incident between Chike Chime and Officer Jordan will become a serious issue throughout the town of Clarkson. My guess is that the people and refugees of Clarkson will rebel and try to take action. Many people, not just the refugees, may begin to distrust the police force and they may band together and help each other get their point across that, enough is enough, the refugees are being treated only mildly better then they were before. It's not fair. THe incident will help ignite the fire that has been brewing since the refugees have begun coming to Clarkson.

Coach Luma taught the refugees lessons and soccer. She would tell them to be on time to everything, but if you were going to be late, you shouldn't bother coming. Coach Luma made sure all the refugees came together as a team and not segregate themselves by where they are from.

In my opinion, Coach Luma is sending out good, positive lessons to all the soccer players. By teaching them to try their hardest will help them not only now, but throughout their lives. Then, she also teaches them to not show up if they will be late because being late is not acceptable once they go into their choice of occupation. overall, she is teaching them good life skills that they will have forever.

I think what happened between Chike, Chime and Officer Jordan was not fair or reasonable at all. Officer Jordan got mad at the simple question that he was asked. The officer probably just got mad because of Chime's skin color and where he is from, making him racist towards Chime. If this had happened to me, I would be completely offended. I wouldn't be shocked if everyone decided to turn against the police.

    Question 1:
Luma is excellent coach, especially for the kids she is coaching. She is showing them to not pick friends through nationality or what country they are from but by who they are as a person. She also teaches them to be prompt and never be late for a practice.

These rules she has teaches the children life lessons. When these children get older they will already understand what it is to be respectful and accepting of everyone no matter their nationality. Learning at a young age to accept everyone can be a truly valuable character trait that these kids need to live in America.

    Question 2:
Racism seems to be a big problem in America. When a man is arrested for no reason like he was in the book it can create high tensions. To be a victim of a hate crime is bad enough, but to have the perpetrator be a police officer is just sad. The Fugees will take a hard hit for this because if authority figures are discriminatory than what stops everyone else from being the same way.

Coach Luma trys to teach her players not only to play soccer good but to treat everybody fairly where ever they are from. She trys to get the players to work as a team and not only as were they came from. she tells them that you shouldnt give up on what you want to do in your life.

I think that it can help her players in the future because they will be able to get along with other people in the world. They will be friendly with more people. i think that they will follow through with there goals untill they are completed.

The incident between Chike chime and officer jordan was very unnecessary. Officer jordan acted the way he did because of Chike Chimes race and backround information. i think that they might try to go against the officer by not listening to him and tryng to rebell.

    Question 1

Coach Luma is a very hardworking and determined Coach. She trains them very hard, but is also caring. She has shown that in many different ways towards them. Her methods in study lessons and practice involve hard work, and also teamwork. She doesn't want anyone to feel left out or discriminated in anyway. Those are things that people will take with them forever.

These values will definitely help the players in their future. It will help them with personality and other things, like determination and hard work. When Coach Luma keeps pushing them to do better and train, she's only doing it because she cares, and wants them to do well. These methods may also make the kids do that when they are older.

    Question 2

What happened between Chike Chime and Officer Jordan was really unfair. He treated Chike Chime in a way that was racist just because he was African. I think that he will try and help people go against Jordan on how he was treated, and not let racism throw someone in jail, just because he's African.

    Question 1:
In the story Luma tries very hard to teach her players, the Fugees, a lot of values and skills. On the field she is strict and gets done whatever needs to be done. She tells her players to group up and she noticed that they chose the people of their nationality. She changed that. She got the boys to work together adn to treat each other fair. With in this experince the boys are also learning responsibility, equality, and teaching them to not only like each other, but with this they become a family.
These values i thinki is very important for the players to learn. This will help the players because it shows them how to be fair and kind. They learned how to work together. With Luma's strict rules it teaches the boys how to be respondsible, caring, and fair to one another. Also instead of looking at ones nationaliy and judging them they look at each other as being the same all of them are the same and one is not more special then one another. These values will help the players in the future and they will probably go on and tech their children and other people what they have learned from Luma.

    Question 2:
what happened between Officer Jordan and Chike Chime was a very big deal. It proves that there is rational tension in Clarkston. If that would have happened to me I would have been scared out of mind. The sad thing is, is that Chime wasn't even a refugee so it makes people wonder how much worse it could be and if something worse had happen. SO the impact on the refugees in Clarkston are in for a rough ride with the oficers in charge.

  17. In the book Outcast United coach Luma trys very hard to teach her players skills though practices. She shows that in many differnt ways with the players. Also she trys to teach everyone to set goals and not give up on their goals.

I think these skills will help the players greatly in the future. The skills teach the players to learn and work hard.It also teaches the players to work together in life.So these skills that the coach taught them are very important in their lives.

I think that what happened to Officer Jordan and Chike Chime was a big deal in the story.Officer jordan treated Chime very unfair just because he was african american.I also think that they might try and go against the officer and try to rebell.

  18. Coach Luma teached her soccer players many great values. One is that she tells her players to always be on time or not even come. This will teach them in the future to never be late and always be on time. Also she teaches her players to not catorgize according to what country they are from. She tells them that they are all equal. This will teach the players to be better people in the future.

These values will really help the players in the future. They because they will never be late. Thats good because if they ever go out for a job they will make a good impression. Also by thinking that everyone is equal, they will never have problems. Coach Luma is teaching them very good values.

The inccident between Chike Chime and Officer Jordan had a great impact. Its very unfair how the Officer treated Chime. No one should be treated this way, no matter what. Everyone should be treated fairly no matter what skin color. The Fugees will probly be brought down from this.

The Fugees coach Luma has taught the kids discipline and a do or die situation. In a way of either come to play, or don't show at all. Coach made sure that the kids made new friends rather than making friends with people from their own country. Coach Luma is always encouraging her players to keep up the good work and to keep their heads high even if they lost.

I think overall, what Coach Luma is trying to get into her players' heads is practice makes perfect. I think that this will benefit the whole team in their futures because, if you practice at something your unsure about, keep practicing and that will make it perfect. Another value Luma is teaching the kids a great factor of discipline. I think that this will help the kids' kids in their future, for them to keep passing down the levels of discipline, and having a guided life.

    Question 2:
Officer Jordon make a wrong arrest on Chime. I think that the arrest was because of his race. The arrest was because Officer Jordan was racist. Clarkston is highly affected by this act. The people of Clarkston are highly offended and are in demand of charges on Chime's arrest.

Coach Luma's intentions are no different than that of practically any other coach. She wants to teach her players things like discipline and that they need to work hard. Some people will think that this is not the job of a coach and should be done at home. But these children live day to day, even in America, and the only chance they have to learn lessons like these is through their coach that chooses to give and give.

The unlawful arrest of Chime may have no direct impact on Clarkston or the Fugees, but to readers and those who heard about the arrest it is a very important symbol. Chime's arrest shows that Clarkston is not free of, and may never be free of, prejudice people and feelings. We see that even in a town where people of nearly every race are represented, hateful actions because of race are still present. Despite the great opportunities soccer gives the Fugees, they will still have a tough American life for now.

Coach Luma cares about her team meaning she wants her team to be the best that they could. She teaches them the skill that they need to know. I think that this will benefit the whole team in their futures because, if you practice at something your unsure about, keep practicing and that will make it perfect. She want her players to never give up. Chike, Chime and Officer Jordan will greatly impact the town of Clarkson. For the natives of Clarkston, all of these refugees coming in caused a commotion and a lot of racial comments because the refugees were looked down upon. The refugees are going to have a rough time with the officers in charge.

Coach Luma tries to teach them values that will help in the real world. Like being on time and if your not on time you pay a consequence in the real world, she also tries to encourage them to do there best and succeed in everything they do.

The incident that happend between Chime and Officer Jordan was a outrageous event and it significe that Clarkston can never be free , and I think it will cause a bigger event because the coach teaches them to never give up.
